Various South African documents are required to obtain the DIRCO Document Authentication Certificate for use in Vietnam. The list includes but is not limited to :

  • SAPS Police clearance certificates
  • HPCSA Medical certificates
  • Business documents, such as certificate of incorporation, financial statements,
  • Certificates, diplomas, university degrees and SAQA verification letters.
  • Birth, marriage, and death certificates
  • Power of attorney, contracts and legal agreements

Application process for DIRCO Document Authentication Certificate For use in Vietnam

Step 1. Document preparation

Before you start the DIRCO application process, it’s important to check that your South African documents are eligible for legalisation.  Not all documents are eligible for the application; for example,

  • Photocopies and abridged copies of birth, marriage or death certificates issued by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) are not accepted.
  • DIRCO also does not accept laminated or handwritten certificates issued by the Department of Home Affairs, only computerised versions.
  • TEFL certificates obtained online must be notarised by a South African notary public and authenticated at the High Court before applying for a DIRCO Document Authentication Certificate for use in Vietnam.
  • Police Clearance Certificates must still be valid to be eligible for DIRCO Document Authentication certificate for use in Vietnam, expired PCCs will be rejected.
  • For educational certificates, DIRCO does not accept original degree. Obtain a SAQA verification letter or a certified copy of your degree, notarised and certified by the High Court.
  • Other documents, such as powers of attorney or company documents, may require additional steps before the DIRCO Document Authentication Certificate for use in Vietnam can be obtained.

Step 2. Certification by the Legalisation Section of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO)

The Legalisation Section of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) in Pretoria is responsible for issuing document authentication certificates for use in Vietnam. However, the process of obtaining the Certificate is subject to the following conditions:

a.   Service hours and days: The walk-in service is available on specific days and at specific times: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:30 to      12:30. Please note that walk-in appointments are not available in the afternoon and that DIRCO is closed on public holidays and in December.

b. ID requirements & registration: On arrival, each individual must present their own documents for legalisation along with a valid form of identification. Registration is required at the Main Gate Security Desk in order to schedule a walk-in appointment. This helps to manage the flow of visitors efficiently.

c. Limited number of appointments: DIRCO’s walk-in service is limited to 32 users per day and operates on an appointment basis. Arriving early may give you a better chance of securing an appointment.

d. Accessibility: Vehicles are not permitted in the main building. Parking is available outside the DIRCO building. However, there are parking spaces inside the building for people with disabilities.
